Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) 1. Why is BearEdu Physics written using the Java programming language? Java was the programming language of choice for the BearEdu Physics program because one basic program could run: 1) over the Internet; 2) as a stand-alone application program; and 3) on the major computer operating systems (Microsoft Windows, Unix, Apple, Linux, etc.) with only minor modifications. 2. What are the system requirements for my computer to run BearEdu Physics? At present, only Windows 95,98,ME,2000,NT and Mac OS 8.1-9.x and Mac OS X are supported for the BearEduPhysics programs. Your computer's processor should have a speed of at least 133MHz. There should be at least 15MBytes of hard disk space available for the downloads. Ram memory should be at least 16M. The display should be capable of handling 'high color' or 'true color'. Although computers with lesser performance characteristics should work fine, the animation may be slow and jerky. 3. The colors are not pure when I view BearEduPhysics over the Internet. Why? This problem is caused by the color setting for your display. If your display is set for 256 Colors or less, then the colors from your browser will not be true. This is easily corrected by changing your color setting to 'high color' or 'true color'. For Windows 95/98, click on the start button in the lower left desktop screen. Click settings, and then click on the control panel. Once the control panel dialog box comes up, click on display. When the display properties box comes up click setting(95) or appearance(98) and then change the color setting to either 'high color' or 'true color'. 4. Why are equations just defined and not derived in the BearEdu Physics program? BearEdu Technologies designed BearEdu Physics to teach the basic principles of physics. Although showing how equations are derived is important, it is considered a topic that will be covered by the classroom teacher. 5. What were the design objectives established by BearEdu Technologies in developing BearEdu Physics? BearEdu Technologies set the following goals: 1) make the program teach the basic principles; 2) try and present the material in an entertaining manner so that the course could be enjoyable; 3) add support material for the teacher to use in the classroom; 4) be informative without getting bogged down in too much detail; 5) perk the students interest in the sciences. 6. At present BearEdu Technologies only sells a CD ROM for the full version (BearEduPhysics-1). Do you plan to make CD's available for the Mini programs? If demand for a CD is sufficient for the other programs, BearEdu Technologies will consider making CD ROM's available. 7. When I am using BearEdu Physics over the web, sometime when I click to get a new page from the 'Contents' menu, the page does not display. Why? In the WebView mode, you must 'double click' on the menu items in order for them to display. The timing between clicks must be just right or the command will be ignored. Speed up or slow down the timing between clicks till you get the required timing down. 8. Why are these programs not available for Unix, Linux, or Apple products? Actually, we have developed the programs for use on the platforms that you identified. However, they have not undergone enough testing to be released. Demand will also play in role in the release of these programs for platforms other than Windows. Contact us if you would like to be a Beta tester for any of the other platforms. 9. Why is BearEdu Technologies offering programs developed by another vendor? We are offering other vendor's programs in order to increase our product line. Although we are working on our own programs, it does take a long time to bring a product to the marketplace. To view some single sample pages or a sample chapter over the web, click on QuickView.
